USC players hope to stave off criminal records
(Columbia-AP) South Carolina receiver Syvelle Newton and former
quarterback Dondrial Pinkins were in magistrate court in Columbia on Tuesday
morning to apply for pretrial intervention program.
Lineman Freddy Saint-Preux will also apply for the first-time offenders program
that clears a defendant's record if he completes community service and other
steps like counseling or restitution.
The three were involved in a theft at Williams-Brice Stadium. They were charged
with misdemeanor petit larceny for the theft of large photos of football
players. They were among six players charged after $18,000 worth of computer and
video equipment and framed photographs were taken November 22nd.
The theft occurred shortly after the Gamecocks were told they would not go to a
bowl game as punishment for an on-field brawl with Clemson.
